CHICAGO - St. Norbert College extended its winning streak to 10 with an 85-31 win over Illinois Institute of Technology in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Keating Sports Center.
The Green Knights (18-3, 14-0 NACC) kept their two-game lead on Wisconsin Lutheran College atop the NACC with four games remaining.
St. Norbert never trailed, although the Scarlet Hawks managed to tie the Green Knights 10-10 and 12-12 in the first quarter. The Green Knights then scored the final five points of the period, getting a hoop from
Kaycee Gierczak and a conventional three-point play from
Taylor Thiry for a 17-12 lead through 10 minutes.
The Green Knights then kept up their recent trend of fashioning big second quarters, outscoring Illinois Tech 25-2 in the stanza. St. Norbert would score the first 20 points of the second quarter to take a 37-12 lead with 1:10 left before halftime.
Emma Morrisey and
Casey Jepson canned 3-pointers to start the run, while Thiry worked inside to score six points during the outburst.
Chloe Gruszynski's basket just before the buzzer put the Green Knights up 42-14 at halftime.
St. Norbert would eventually build a 44-point third-quarter lead on
Natalie Cerrato's 3-pointer late in the frame, leading 68-24 with 10 minutes left.
Emma Harris scored the Green Knights' final points for the largest lead of the game.
The Green Knights shot 53.2 percent (33-for-62) from the floor and outrebounded Illinois Tech 41-21. Thiry posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Jepson finished with 15 points, while Gruszynski had 12 points and Gierczak 11 counters.
Illinois Tech shot 27.7 percent (13-for-47) from the floor. Kaya Jones led the Scarlet Hawks with 14 points.
