ANGOLA, Ind. - St. Norbert College pulled away with four third-period goals to top Trine University 6-1 in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Thunder Ice Arena.
The Green Knights (16-3-3, 12-0-1 NCHA) outshot Trine 68-9 in the contest but led just 2-1 at the pay window through two periods.
Lexi Bonfe got the Green Knights on the board with a goal at 4:07 of the first period, but Trine's Ellie Warhoftig scored at 11:39 to knot the game 1-1 through one period. The Green Knights pulled ahead 2-1 when
Natalie Hogan scored a shorthanded goal at 3:47 of the second period, a marker that would hold up into second intermission. Hogan's goal was her second shorthanded goal of the season, tying a St. Norbert record.
The Green Knights got some insurance with Bonfe's second goal of the game, this one coming at 2:02 of the third period.
Courtnie Hogan followed with a goal at 10:26,
Bailey Brunnhoelzl at 12:14, and
Morgan Olson a power-play goal at 17:55.
Bonfe had two assists to finish with a career-high four-point game.
Natalie Hogan and
Courtnie Hogan each had two assists to finish with three-point games.
Brynn Waisman made eight saves for the Green Knights, while Casey Frank turned away 62 shots for the Thunder.
St. Norbert was 1-for-3 on the power play, while Trine was 0-for-1.
