Green Knights Fall In Regular-Season Finale

DE PERE - St. Norbert College came up just short in its quest for its first Northern Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season championship with a 3-2 setback to Adrian College at Resch Olympic Pavilion.

The Green Knights (17-5-3, 13-2-1) finished the NCHA race with 40 points, trailing Adrian (22-3, 14-2) by two points. St. Norbert will be the No. 2 seeding for the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs, and will host Marian University next weekend in a quarterfinal series.

Adrian jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Une Bjelland scored a power-play goal at 10:28 of the first period. That goal would hold up through the first two periods, with the Bulldogs keeping the Green Knights off the scoreboard through second intermission.

St. Norbert would break through early in the third period, when Kelsey Ross scored her 12th goal of the season just 21 seconds into the final period. The Bulldogs would retake the lead at 3:36 on a goal by Emma Corbett. Each team came up empty on a power play midway through the period and the Green Knights retied the game at 2-2 when Bailey Brunnhoelzl converted her ninth goal of the year at 15:23. Adrian would get the eventual game-winner at 17:10 on a goal by Jocelin Hudanish.

Natalie Hogan assisted on Ross' goal to give her 31 points this season, tying the St. Norbert single-season scoring record.

Adrian outshot St. Norbert 33-29. Sophie Goldberg made 27 saves for Adrian, while Brynn Waisman had 30 saves for St. Norbert.

St. Norbert was 0-for-4 on the power play, while Adrian was 1-for-2.
