DE PERE - St. Norbert College erupted for eight unanswered goals as it swept Marian University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Harris Cup Playoffs quarterfinal series with an 8-2 win in Game 2 at Cornerstone Commuity Center.
The Green Knights (17-8-2), who topped the Sabres 5-2 in Game 1 on Friday, will face Aurora University in a Harris Cup Playoffs semifinal game at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, Ill. The victory also extended St. Norbert's winning streak to 46 games in the quarterfinal round of the NCHA Playoffs.
St. Norbert looked to be in a bit of trouble when Marian jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the game's first six minutes, with Austin Nault scoring at 4:13 and Mason Richey following at 5:59. The Green Knights got a big goal back at 15:42 when
Brock Baker finished.
The Green Knights tied the game at 11:02 of the second period on a power-play goal by Baker. St. Norbert took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission after
Adam Stacho scored from the doorstep for a power-play goal at 17:08.
Stacho scored his second power-play goal of the game at the 1:02 mark of the third period for a big two-goal cushion. Stacho finished off the natural hat truck with a goal at 7:14, his 14th of the season.
Liam Fraser scored an empty-net goal at 17:04, and
Ian Famulak added a pair of goals at 17:48 and 19:49.
Stacho had an assist for a four-point game, while Baker had an assist for a three-point game. Fraser had two assists and
Michael McChesney three assists with both also finishing with three-point games.
Braden Lindstrom had two assists to join Famulak with two-point games.
St. Norbert outshot Marian 47-22 after the Sabres opened the game with an 8-2 shots advantage.
Colby Entz made 20 saves for St. Norbert, while Colby Muise made 39 saves for Marian.
St. Norbert finished 3-for-6 on the power play, while Marian was 0-for-2.
