GENEVA, Ill. - St. Norbert College saw its run in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Harris Cup Playoffs end with a 4-3 loss to Aurora University at Fox Valley Ice Arena.
The Green Knights (17-9-2) jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead.
Ben Schmidling scored at 5:11 off a
Michael McChesney assist, and
Adam Stacho found twine at 15:25 off a
Michael Spethmann. St. Norbert outshot the Spartans 14-4 in the second period.
The two-goal lead held up all the way until late in the second period when Aurora's Jack Jaunich scored at 19:04 of the second period to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Spartans kept the momentum going when Lukas Sedlacek scored at 1:35 of the third period. Simon Boyko then registered a power-play goal 7:23 and Giovanni Procopio scored at 11:26 and Aurora held a 4-2 lead.
Brendan Mark scored a power-play goal for St. Norbert at 13:45 off
Braden Lindstrom and
Dayton Deics assists to get St. Norbert to within 4-3.
The Green Knights had an extra attacker on the ice for the final 2:02 but did not get the equalizer.
St. Norbert outshot Aurora 55-24, including 22-10 in the third period.
Colby Entz made 20 saves for the Green Knights, while Kolby Thornton turned away 52 stops for the Sparants.
The Green Knights were 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Spartans were 1-for-3.
