Defeat Leads to Winner-Take-All Game In Finale

DE PERE - St. Norbert College, hunting for its first Northern Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season championship, will have its quest come down to the regular-season finale after a 1-0 loss to Adrian College at Resch Olympic Pavilion.

The Green Knights (17-4-3, 13-1-1 NCHA) currently lead the Bulldogs (21-3, 13-2) by one point - 40 points to 39 - with one game and three points remaining in Saturday's regular-season finale. St. Norbert needs at least an overtime or shootout win to get two points to win its first Kronschnabel Cup and clinch the No. 1 seeding for the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs. An Adrian win either outright, in overtime or in a shootout would give the Bulldogs the top seeding.

In a hard-fought affair that saw much of the play tied up in the neutral zone, Adrian scored the game's only goal when Gia Avalone scored 47 seconds into the second period.

St. Norbert would get two power-play chances later in the second period and didn't score, and also had a power-play opportunity which included extra-attacker time late and couldn't net the equalizer.

Adrian outshot St. Norbert 17-14. Sophie Goldberg made 14 saves to get the shutout for the Bulldogs, while Brynn Waisman made 16 stops for the Green Knights.

The Green Knights finished 0-for-3 on the power play, while Adrian did not have a power-play chance as St. Norbert went penalty free.
