Green Knights Pull Away Early In Win

DE PERE - St. Norbert College enjoyed a big first half as the Green Knights rolled to a 69-51 win over Dominican University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights (4-3, 2-0 NACC) jumped out to a 20-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and saw the lead expand into a 42-14 bulge by halftime.

St. Norbert had a 6-4 lead halfway through the first quarter before erupting on a 14-0 run over the last 4:44 of the period to take control. Emmy Morrisey's layup, Chloe Gruszynski's 3-pointer and Rose Hahn's layup gave the Green Knights seven quick points on three consecutive possessions. Marnie Kahl drained a jumper, Morrisey another trey and Taylor Thiry two free throws closed out the quarter.

The run continued with six points to open the second quarter for a 20-0 overall run, with a basket by Thiry and two from Oakley Witteck for a 26-4 lead with 8:14 left before halftime. The lead eventually grew to 29 at 40-11 on a Thiry fastbreak layup with 1:46 left before settling on a 42-14 halftime lead.

St. Norbert led by as many as 33 points late in the third quarter after Ellison Lilyquist scored to put the Green Knights up 58-25. A total of 16 Green Knights saw action as the Stars, who dressed just nine players, outscore St. Norbert 25-11 in the fourth quarter.

The Green Knights shot 43.8 percent (28-for-64) from the floor. Thiry had 12 points and Morrisey 11 to crack double figures. A total of 13 players scores, with Hahn and Casey Jepson adding nine points each. Avery Bierowski had a team-high nine rebounds along with six points.

Dominican shot 29.6 percent (16-for-54) from the floor. Kameron Goodman led the Stars with 14 points, while Lia Saunders added 11 points.
