Big First Half Paces St. Norbert

DE PERE - St. Norbert College raced out to a 22-point halftime lead and went on to post a 77-61 win over Dominican University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights (5-1, 2-1 NACC) scored on four of their first five possessions to build a quick 9-0 lead. Evan Glaser had a pair of baskets on each end of the run, with Garrett Grzesk canning a jumper and Carter Gebler adding a 3-pointer. The Stars would get to within 11-7, but St. Norbert then went on a 16-2 run after scoring on eight consecutive possessions to pull away and build a 27-10 lead with 8:22 left in the half following a Glaser layup.

St. Norbert kept its lead in the teens until late in in the first half when it got into the 20s. Gebler's 3-pointer put St. Norbert up 42-18 with 47 seconds left before halftime. The Green Knights led 42-20 at the rest stop.

The Green Knights led 49-26 with 15:05 left after a Jamison Nickolai dunk, but the Stars made a run to get back into the game. Dominican went on an 18-3 run to shave 15 points off its deficit to trail 52-44 with 10:42 to go. St. Norbert held a 60-46 lead when a Dominican foul and technical foul gave the Green Knights four free throws, which they converted for a 64-46 edge with 7:47 left. Dominican would get no closer than 12 points until late in the game.

St. Norbert shot 46.9 percent (23-for-49) from the floor and was 28-for-33 (84.8 percent) at the free-throw line. Grzesk led the Green Knights with 13 points and nine rebounds. Nickolai, Glaser and Gebler all had 12 points apiece.

Dominican shot 35.7 percent (20-for-56) from the floor. Dominic Crapia led the Stars with 11 points and Terrell Taylor added 10 points.
