Green Knights Rally Again To Sweep Foresters

DE PERE - St. Norbert College rallied from a third-period deficit for the second time in as many nights to post a 3-2 win over Lake Forest College in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (3-2, 2-0 NCHA) trailed 2-1 after two periods before getting two goals midway through the third period to finish the series sweep of the Foresters (2-2, 0-2). St. Norbert trailed 3-1 in the series opener before posting a 4-3 overtime win on Friday.

St. Norbert fell behind in the first period when the Foresters registered goals by Griffen Sanom at 7:59 and Chase Freiermuth at 13:44. Those two goals would hold up for Lake Forest until the Green Knights got a big goal when Carter Hottmann scored at 18:21 of the second period to give the host momentum going into second intermission.

The Green Knights went on the power play at 6:27 of the third period and needed just six seconds to score, with Braden Lindstrom winning the draw and Adam Szubert passing to Gustav Portillo. Portillo unloaded a one-time tracer to tie the game at 6:33 on his first collegiate goal. St. Norbert took the lead when a scramble deep in the Lake Forest defensive zone led to an open net, and T.J. Koufis puffed the net at 11:01 for his third goal of the season.

St. Norbert held the Foresters off the board the rest of the way, with Hunter Garvey making a key third-period save and the defense keeping Lake Forest at bay for 92 seconds of extra-attacker time.

Portillo finished with one goal and one assist for two points and Logan Dombrowsky had two assists for two points for St. Norbert's multi-point games.

St. Norbert outshot Lake Forest 38-26. Garvey made 24 saves to register his first collegiate win between the pipes. Dylan Kruss made 35 saves for the Foresters.

The Green Knights were 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Foresters were empty on their only man advantage.
