ANGOLA, Ind. - St. Norbert College fell behind early again but this time couldn't dig its way out of the deficit and fell 5-4 to Trine University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Thunder Ice Arena.
The Green Knights trailed 5-2 early in the third period before getting a couple of power-play goals to get back into the game.
T.J. Koufis scored at 12:48 and
Adam Stacho followed with an extra-attacker goal on the power play at 19:37, but St. Norbert couldn't get the tying goal in the closing seconds.
Trine jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Sam Antenucci scored a power-play goal at 4:27 and Josh Wright at 12:16 of the first period. The Green Knights got a goal back when
Liam Fraser scored a power-play goal at 14:16 to carry a 2-1 deficit into first intermission.
Koufis tied the game at 6:50 of the second period, but the Thunder responded when Thad Marcola scored at 14:42 of the period with a power-play goal and a 3-2 lead at second intermission.
Trine got a pair of necessary insurance goals when Chace McCardle scored at 1:41 and Drew Welsch at 5:37 of the third period.
Koufis finished with two goals for two points, while Stacho and Fraser each had one goal and one assist for two points.
Adam Szubert had two assists for two points.
St. Norbert outshot Trine 29-22.
Johnny Roberts made 17 saves for the Green Knights, while Kyle Kozma made 25 saves for the Thunder.
St. Norbert was 3-for-9 on the power play, while Trine was 2-for-3.
