LAKE FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College got its Northern Collegiate Hockey Association schedule off to a good start with a 3-1 win over Lake Forest College in both teams' league opener at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.
The Green Knights (2-1, 1-0 NCHA) got a power-play goal in the first period when
Kelsey Ross scored off a
Claire Healy assist at 8:21 for a 1-0 lead. St. Norbert doubled its lead in the second period when the two teamed up again, with Healy scoring a power-play marker for her first collegiate goal with Ross helping at 4:39.
The Foresters would score at 17:39 of the third period when Shannon Gibbons scored, but the Green Knights salted the game away with an empty-net goal by Ross at 19:02.
Ross finished with three points with two goals and one assist, while Healy had two points on one goal and one assist.
The Green Knights were 2-for-6 on the power play, while allowing the Foresters just one scoreless power-play chance.
St. Norbert outshot Lake Forest 30-26.
Brynn Waisman made 25 saves for the Green Knights, while Chelsea Denniss had 27 stops for the Foresters.
