Stacho, St. Norbert Steal Series Opener

DE PERE - St. Norbert College mounted a furious third-period rally and came back to top Lake Forest College 4-3 in overtime in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association thriller at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (2-2, 1-0 NCHA) trailed 3-1 midway through the third period before getting a pair of goals and then the overtime game winner.

Adam Stacho brought St. Norbert to within one when he scored at the 10:13 mark of the third period. The goal appeared to ignite the St. Norbert attack, which put the Lake Forest defense under heavy pressure the remainder of the third period - with the Green Knights outshooting the Foresters 20-2 in the final 20 minutes. St. Norbert pulled goaltender Johnny Roberts and it was Stacho who again converted with the extra-attacker goal with 1:54 remaining in regulation.

St. Norbert and Lake Forest appeared headed toward a shootout for the extra point in the NCHA standings until the Green Knights won a draw in their defensive zone and Stacho carried the puck into the offensive zone, waited out a sprawled Forester and beat goaltender Dylan Kruss top-shelf with 13 seconds remaining in the overtime session for a natural hat trick.

St. Norbert fell behind early when Connor Sullivan scored 21 seconds into a major Lake Forest power play at 7:57 of the first period. The Green Knights would kill off the remainder of the penalty and would tie it at 54 seconds of the second period on Logan Dombrowsky's second goal of the year. The Foresters would push out to a 3-1 lead after two periods after goals by Griffen Sanom at 4:04 and Hayden Riva at 11:08.

Stacho figured in on all four St. Norbert goals with three goals and an assist on Dombrowsky's goal. Liam Fraser had three assists for three points, while Dayton Deics had two assists for two points.

St. Norbert outshot Lake Forest 46-24. The Green Knights were 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Foresters were 1-for-3.

Roberts made 21 saves for St. Norbert, with Kruss stopping 42 shots for the Foresters.
