DE PERE - St. Norbert College got off to a fast start and was never threatened in a 58-6 win over Rockford University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Schneider Stadium.
The Green Knights (4-2, 3-1 NACC) scored touchdowns on eight of their 10 possessions that did not end a half, and split a pair of field-goal attempts on the other two. St. Norbert gained 545 yards on 77 plays to pile up 29 first downs, while Rockford had just 155 yards of offense on 48 plays - with 92 of the Regents' total coming in the fourth quarter.
St. Norbert got its first possession at the Rockford 19 after it blocked a Regents' punt.
Owen Kudick rushed five-straight times to eventually score on a 1-yard run with 11:40 left in the first quarter. The Green Knights held Rockford to a three-and-out and then needed just six plays to traverse 55 yards and score on a 6-yard touchdown pass from
Peyton Lyon to
Dylan Rhodes for a 13-0 lead with 7:33 left in the quarter.
The Green Knights scored on a pair of long drives in the second quarter. St. Norbert moved 89 yards in 10 plays to score on a
Delton Zuleger run from two yards out on a fourth-and-goal situation for a 20-0 lead with 11:31 left in the period. The Green Knights were then pinned at their own 1-yard line, but needed just 12 plays to move the length of the field and score on a 53-yard touchdown pass from Lyon to
Paul Bageanis with 1:32 left in the period. St. Norbert led 27-0 at halftime.
St. Norbert scored on three short drives in the third quarter. Lyon hit
Tommy Hoeft on a 10-yard touchdown, Zuleger had a 3-yard touchdown run, and
Dalton Moyse converted a 22-yard field goal for a 44-0 lead.
The Green Knights scored on the first play of the fourth quarter on a
Chris McCartney 1-yard touchdown plunge. St. Norbert then had a 14-play, 92-yard drive to score on a 7-yard touchdown pass from
Chase Cassel to
Hayden Makela for a 58-0 lead. Rockford scored a consolation touchdown on a 34-yard touchdown pass from Jaelen Ray to Da'Quan McIntosh with 1:25 remaining.
Lyon completed 14 of 20 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns.
Mitch Van Vooren caught four passes for 82 yards, while
Brady Wilde had three catches for 46 yards. Kudick and
Patrick Oden each had 77 rushing yards, while Zuleger had 69 rushing yards on 10 carries.
Ray completed 15 of 24 passes for 136 yards to lead Rockford, which had just 19 rushing yards.
Sam Barnett led St. Norbert defensively with seven tackles, while
Kyle Santos had three tackles-for-loss, a quarterback sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
