DE PERE – St. Norbert College picked up a pair of wins in a rare conference/non-conference triangular, topping Marian University 3-0 and Ripon College 3-1 at Mulva Family Fitness and Sports Center.
The Green Knights (10-10, 3-2 NACC) topped the Sabres 25-10, 25-14, 25-17 to earn a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win. St. Norbert then claimed a 25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 25-11 victory over its former Midwest Conference rival Red Hawks.
Against Marian, after a 4-4 start to Set 1 the Green Knights pulled away quickly. St. Norbert led 6-5 and then went on a 9-0 run, which included three
Rylie Gregg service aces.
Brooke Clement's two kills then finished the opening set. The Green Knights and Sabres were tied 10-10 in Set 2 before an 8-0 St. Norbert run gave it control. Clement had three-straight kills during the run. St. Norbert trailed early in Set 3 at 5-3, but the Green Knights responded to eventually build a 16-10 lead and were never seriously threatened from there.
St. Norbert hit .267 for the match, posting 36 kills against nine errors in 101 attempts. Clement had 12 kills, while Gregg added nine and
Alyssa Mills eight.
Ellie Hartson had 15 assists, while
Heidi Colburn added 12. Gregg had four of the Green Knights' nine service aces.
Eggers finished with 21 digs, while Clement and
Andrianna Volz had seven each.
Mari Szews finished with four blocks, while Colburn and Heidi Clark had three each.
Marian hit minus-.019, with 22 kills and 24 errors in 106 swings. Olivia Buol had a team-high seven kills.
Against Ripon, St. Norbert trailed Set 1 by a 17-15 count before going on a 6-1 run to take a 21-18 lead. After a Ripon point, St. Norbert closed out the set led by a pair of
Anna Kudick kills. In Set 2, the Red Hawks closed to within 21-20 late, but the Green Knights held off the visitor to take a 2-0 lead. The Green Knights then held an 18-10 lead in Set 3, but Ripon went on a 9-0 run to surge ahead. St. Norbert came again to take a 23-20 lead, but the Red Hawks scored the last five points to steal the set. St. Norbert and Ripon were tied 7-7 in the fourth set, but the Green Knights went on a 12-1 run to take control and close out the match.
St. Norbert hit .220 for the match, with 53 kills against 22 errors in 141 attempts. Kudick finished with 16 kills, while Clement had 12. A total of 12 Green Knights had at least one kill in the match. Colburn and Hartson each had 13 assists, while
Carley Varoni had 10. Clement, Hartson and
Lauren Borchardt had two service aces each.
Eggers had 14 digs, while Varoni and Volz had eight each.
Linnea Svennes had two blocks.
Ripon hit .098 for the match, with 37 kills and 24 errors in 133 attempts. Paris Croker had 12 kills to lead the Red Hawks.
