Green Knights Take Season Opener From St. Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - St. Norbert College gained a lead after two periods and shut down St. Olaf College in the third period as the Green Knights posted a 4-3 win over the Oles in a non-conference game at St. Olaf Ice Arena.

The Green Knights held their 4-3 lead after the first 40 minutes of action and then held St. Olaf to just two shots on goal in the final 20 minutes to lock up the win.

St. Norbert jumped out to an early 2-0 lad when Will Stromp scored at 5:33 and T.J. Koufis at 6:49 of the first period, with Calvin Hanson assisting on both markers. St. Olaf halved its deficit when Parker Casey scored a 5-on-3 power-play goal at 14:56 of the first period, with the 2-1 score holding up into first intermission.

Hanson gave St. Norbert its two-goal lead back when he scored at 1:40 for his first collegiate goal off assists from Koufis and Mark Snarr. The Oles would respond with a pair of goals, with Jonathan Young and Brendan Darby scoring at 8:24 and 9:42, respectively. St. Norbert wasted little time in retaking the lead when Logan Dombrowsky also scored in his first collegiate game with a goal at 9:42, with Adam Stacho and Cooper Morris assisting.

St. Norbert would then outshoot St. Olaf 12-2 in the third period and preserve its one-goal lead. The Oles had an extra attacker on for the last 1:48 of the game.

Hanson finished with three points with one goal and two assists, while Koufis had two points with one goal and one assist.

The Green Knights outshot the Oles 32-21. Johnny Roberts made 18 saves for St. Norbert, while Tylre Laureault made 28 stops for St. Olaf.

St. Norbert was 0-for-5 on the power play, while St. Olaf was 1-for-2.
