AURORA, Ill. - St. Norbert College couldn't overcome a slow start and eventually succumbed 3-0 to Aurora University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Thornton Gymnasium.
The Green Knights (15-11, 7-3 NACC) saw a nine-match winning streak snapped by scores of 25-22, 30-28, 25-18.
St. Norbert opened Set 1 with deficits of 14-3 and 15-4 but came storming back to eventually trail 20-19. Aurora scored the next two points before St. Norbert got to within 22-21 and 23-22, but the Green Knights couldn't tie the score before Aurora closed it out. The Green Knights led Set 2 by a 12-8 count before Aurora eventually rallied to take a 22-19 lead. Aurora led 23-22 before St. Norbert took leads of 25-24 and 26-25 but couldn't close out the deuce set. Aurora never trailed or was tied in Set 3.
The Green Knights hit .173 for the match, terminating 36 kills with 18 errors in 104 attempts.
Brooke Clement had 14 kills, while
Alyssa Mills and
Alli Clark had six apiece.
Heidi Colburn had 20 assists, while
Ellie Hartson added 11. Hartson also had three service aces.
Erin Eggers led the defense with 15 digs. Clark had five blocks, while
Mari Szews had four.
Aurora hit .245 with 45 kills and 18 errors in 110 attempts. Lulu Torres had a match-high 15 kills for the Spartans.
