DE PERE - St. Norbert College picked up a big win over Lakeland University with a 3-1 triumph in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights (16-11, 8-3 NACC) topped the Muskies (12-11, 7-4) by scores of 25-20, 17-25, 25-21, 25-23 in a match that will go a long way in determining a quarterfinal-round host in the upcoming NACC Tournament.
St. Norbert snapped a 5-5 tie in Set 1 by going on a 7-0 run aided by two kills and three blocks by
Alli Clark and a pair of blocks by
Heidi Colburn. The closest the Muskies would get would be 21-17 before St. Norbert closed out a 1-0 lead. Lakeland never trailed in Set 2, eventually leading 20-12 en route to tying the match at 1-1. The Green Knights responded with a 7-0 run to open Set 3, but Lakeland would battle back to tie at 20-20 and 21-21. St. Norbert would go on a 4-0 run to close the set, getting a kill and two blocks from
Mari Szews. The fourth set featured 15 ties and eight lead changes. St. Norbert led 16-13 before Lakeland went on a 5-0 run to take an 18-16 lead. The Green Knights came again with a 4-0 run behind kills from
Alyssa Mills,
Brooke Clement and Clark. Lakeland would rebound to take a 23-22 lead, but a
Rylie Gregg kill, a Szews solo block and a Lakeland attacking error closed out the win for St. Norbert.
The Green Knights hit .185 for the match, with 55 kills and 26 errors in 157 attempts. Clement had 16 kills, Gregg 12 kills and Mills 10 kills.
Ellie Hartson had 22 assists and three service aces, while
Heidi Colburn had 21 assists.
Szews finished with six blocks, followed by Clark and Clement with three apiece. Colburn and Gregg had two blocks each as the Green Knights registered nine team blocks overall.
Erin Eggers totaled 31 digs.
Lakeland hit .124, with 40 kills and 23 errors in 137 attempts. Susana Stevens led the Muskies with 12 kills.
