ANGOLA, Ind. - A pair of second-period goals 11 seconds apart lifted St. Norbert College to a 4-2 win over Trine University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Thunder Ice Arena.
The Green Knights were trailing 2-1 with 16 minutes gone by in the second period when they struck quickly to take control.
Carter Hottmann's goal at 16:02 knotted the score at 2-2, and
Adam Stacho followed just 11 seconds later to put St. Norbert ahead 3-2 in stunning fashion.
Those goals would hold up until St. Norbert registered a 5-on-3 power-play goal off the stick of
Curtis Hammond with 1:16 left to play to seal the victory.
Trine took the lead when Brett Tierney scored at 15:06 of the first period, but
Ben Schmidling countered at 17:28 of the frame leading to a 1-1 tie at first intermission. The Green Knights then killed off three penalties in the second period before Trine's Garrett Hallford scored at 13:38 to give the Thunder a short-lived 2-1 lead.
Schmidling had an assist and
Brock Baker posted two assists for St. Norbert's multi-point games.
The Green Knights outshot the Thunder 32-21.
Johnny Roberts made 19 saves for St. Norbert, while Kyle Kozma had 28 stops for Trine.
St. Norbert was 1-for-3 on the power play, while Trine was 0-for-4.
