Second Half Enough For St. Norbert Against Dominican

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College steadily pulled away in the second half as the Green Knights claimed a 75-64 win over Dominican University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Igini Sports Forum.

The Green Knights (11-7, 8-3 NACC) led 35-34 at halftime but eventually built a healthy lead over the final 20 minutes of play.

St. Norbert held a 42-40 lead with 16:42 remaining before going on an 11-2 run to get some breathing room. The Green Knights got baskets from Michael Payant and Carter Gebler before Evan Glaser added a pair of hoops. Aidan Harrington then buried a 3-pointer for a 53-42 lead with 13:19 left. A Payant 3-pointer put St. Norbert up 58-44 with 11:13 remaining. St. Norbert's lead remained in double digits for the remainder of the game, except for a brief nine-point advantage.

The Green Knights got off to a hot start, taking a 14-4 lead in the first four minutes of the game. Harrington had five of the first seven points and Jamison Nickolai added a conventional three-point play. Payant's layup put the Green Knights up 14-4 with 16:05 left in the half. Dominican would then score the game's next 11 points until St. Norbert broke the drought with 9:53 to play in the period - a drought of 6:12. Ben Jelacic's 3-pointer put St. Norbert up 25-18 and the lead eventually reached 27-18 on a Nickolai basket. A Nickolai trey with 4:24 left put St. Norbert up 30-23, but the Stars shot back again, hitting a pair of 3s in the final minute of the half to trail 35-34 at the break.

St. Norbert shot 41.4 percent (24-for-58) from the floor and was 21-for-24 (87.5 percent) at the free-throw line, and made all 13 freebies in the second half. Payant had 15 points, while Glaser and Garrett Grzesk added 13 points. Nickolai had 12 points.

Dominican shot 46.9 percent (23-for-49) from the field. Daniel Nennig was the only Star scoring in double figures with 19 points.
