St. Norbert Efficient In Benedictine Win

DE PERE - St. Norbert College put together a solid effort from start to finish as the Green Knights won a key Northern Athetics Collegiate Conference matchup 82-67 over Benedictine University at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights (12-7, 9-3 NACC) set a season-high mark with their fifth consecutive win and pushed Benedictine (8-10, 6-4) a game behind in the loss column in the league standings.

St. Norbert got off to a quick start taking an 11-2 lead just over three minutes into the game. Evan Glaser scored the first six St. Norbert points, followed by a 3-pointer from Garrett Grzesk and a layup form Carter Gebler. Benedictine would get to within 19-17, but the Green Knights would rebuild the lead to eight points twice, the latter at 29-21 on a Glaser layup with 4:30 left. St. Norbert led 32-26 with 1:46 left in the half before Benedictine went on a quick 7-0 run to take a 33-32 lead, but Michael Payant's 3-pointer just before halftime sent the Green Knights into the locker room with a 35-33 lead.

The Green Knights led 43-37 with 16:57 to go before a 13-5 run pushed the lead to 56-42 with 11:37 to go. Gebler and Jamison Nickolai had a pair of 3-pointers during the run. St. Norbert led 59-48 with 10:12 left and the Green Knights went on an 11-0 run to see the lead balloon to 70-48 with 6:55 left. Gebler drained consecutive 3s and Brandt Wilson joined the act with a triple. A pair of Gebler free throws closed out the run.

St. Norbert shot 44.1 percent (26-for-59) from the floor and was 12-for-31 (38.7 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. Glaser had a team-high 17 points, while Nickolai added 16 points off the bench. Gebler totaled 15 points, while Wilson posted 11 points. Payant had six points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.

Benedictine shot 47.4 percent (27-for-57) from the floor but was 7-for-26 (26.9 percent) from distance. Trevor Montiel led the Eagles with 14 points.
