GENEVA, Ill. - St. Norbert College remained unblemished in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings with a 2-0 win over Aurora University in the opener of a crucial two-game series at Fox Valley Ice Arena.
The Green Knights (11-3-2, 7-0 NCHA) moved four points ahead of Aurora (11-2-1, 5-1-1 NCHA), ranked No. 12 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, in the NCHA standings. The two teams wrap up their series at 3 p.m. Friday.
St. Norbert was able to take a first-period lead when
Bailey Brunnhoelzl scored her sixth goal of the season at the 11:54 mark, set up by assists from
Jordan Moore and
Ava Jaschke.
Brunnhoelzl's marker would hold up as the only scoring until midway through the third period, when Moore scored unassisted at 10:02 for her fourth goal of the year. Aurora would only get 25 seconds of extra-attacker time as the game wound to a close.
Brynn Waisman made 27 saves for the Green Knights, posting her fourth shutout of the season and lowered her goals against average to 0.85. It was St. Norbert's sixth shutout overall.
The Green Knights did not commit a penalty in the game. St. Norbert was 0-for-3 on the power play.
Aurora outshot St. Norbert 27-25, with the Spartans' Tia Glube making 23 stops.
