FOND DU LAC - St. Norbert College's defense held up under strong second-half pressure and led the Green Knights to a 1-0 win over Marian University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Smith Field.
The Green Knights (4-3, 3-0 NACC) were outshot 9-0 in the second half by the Sabres (3-3-1, 2-1) but goalkeeper
Carlene Goral made eight total saves, including turning away a pair of quality Marian scoring chances.
St. Norbert got all the scoring it would need at 17:45, when
Melanie Simon finished a header off a header pass from
Haley Leadingham, who was served by a
Mallory Names corner kick. It was Simon's second goal of the season.
St. Norbert then held off Marian in the second half, with six of Goral's saves coming in the final 45 minutes of action.
The Green Knights were outshot 14-5 for the match but held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Marian had a 10-7 edge in fouls.
