DE PERE - St. Norbert College erupted offensively and cruised to a 7-1 win over Lakeland University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Schneider Stadium.
The Green Knights jumped ahead early when
Amelia Carlson finished a rebound off a
Haley Leadingham shot into an open cage just 7:56 into the match. St. Norbert doubled its lead when
Abby Thompson scored unassisted after beating her defender and the goalkeeper at 23:07. Lakeland would halve its deficit when Alondra Reyes' free kick was tucked perfectly into the goal at 40:56, but St. Norbert would score just 82 seconds later when Leadingham scored on a breakaway off an assist from
Meredith Posanski at 42:18 for a 3-1 halftime lead.
St. Norbert would pull away in the opening moments of the second half. Thompson scored again on an unassisted goal on a shot to the far post at 47:40.
Mallory Names then converted a penalty kick just 27 seconds later. Leadingham added another goal at 64:07, while Thompson registered a hat trick with the game's final goal when she finished off a
Lizzie Guerin assist at 70:32.
The Green Knights outshot Lakeland 27-3. Thompson and
Kait Schweitzer had seven shots apiece, while Leadingham had four shots and Names three.
Lilly Collins worked the first 61:05 between the posts for St. Norbert, while
Lindsay Fortier made one save in 28:55 of relief. Haley Rich made 10 saves for the Muskies.
