St. Norbert Opens Season at Nationally Ranked Loras

Abby ThompsonDUBUQUE, Iowa - St. Norbert College opened the 2022 season with a 6-1 setback against Loras College at Rock Bowl.

The Green Knights faced a Duhawks side that qualified for the NCAA Division III Final Four in 2021 and entered this campaign ranked No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches Division III Poll.

Loras took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Savannah Johnson in the 14th minute. The Green Knights answered on an unassisted marker by Abby Thompson at the 16:05 mark. The Duhawks would take a 2-1 lead into halftime on a Ryleigh O'Brien goal at 24:30.

The Duhawks pulled away with four second-half goals coming 15 minutes apart.

Loras outshot St. Norbert 25-6 and held a 12-4 edge in corner kicks. Lilly Collins made six saves in 79 minutes for St. Norbert, while Carlene Goral made one stop in 11 minutes of relief.
