DE PERE - St. Norbert College got a pair of strong starts on the mound en route to a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader sweep of Dominican University by scores of 7-3 and 8-4 at Van Alstine Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex.
Mason Sefcik allowed just two runs in seven innings to earn the win in the opener, while
Luke Steebs fashioned a complete-game victory in the nightcap.
Dominican scored twice in the top of the third in the opener to take a 2-0 lead, but St. Norbert score done in its half of the inning to halve the deficit when
Adam Cootway singled home
Nick Volz. The Green Knights pushed ahead 4-2 with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, with
Isaac Gerhardt driving in
Caden Uhlenbrauck on a fielder's choice grounder, with Uhlenbrauck just beating the tag at the plate. Volz followed with an RBI single and
Eric Kramer a run-scoring double.
St. Norbert added a tack-on run in the seventh inning on a
Trevor Reinhardt RBI double to bring around Cootway. Dominican scored a run in the top of the eighth, but St. Norbert scored twice on three hits in the eighth.
Trevor Cornell and Volz had RBI singles in the inning.
Volz went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Uhlenbrauck was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Reinhardt was 2-for-4 and Cootway 2-for-5. St. Norbert had 13 hits in the opener.
Sefcik scattered eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
Noah Lindsley worked the last 1 2/3 innings for his second save of the season.
In the nightcap, Steebs allowed just six hits with one walk and two strikeouts in the complete-game win. Steebs coaxed Dominican into making 21 outs in the air.
St. Norbert scored a run in the first inning on a Reinhardt sacrifice fly to bring home Kramer. Dominican scored in the top of the second, but the Green Knights added four runs in the bottom of the second for a 5-1 lead. Volz brought home a pair of runs with a double, while Cootway then had an RBI single. On the play, Cootway advanced to second on a throwing error and then moved to third and scored on another throwing error.
Dominican would score once in the third and twice in the fourth to cut it to 5-4, but Steebs would hold the Stars the rest of the way. The Green Knights got an insurance run in the seventh on a
Luke Follmann RBI single. St. Norbert scored twice in the eighth inning on a
Sebastien Dubois RBI groundout and a Follmann single.
St. Norbert had 13 hits in the nightcap. Reinhardt was 3-for-4 with two doubles. Kramer, Follmann and Uhlenbrauck were all 2-for-5.
