LOVES PARK, Ill. - St. Norbert College extended a modest winning streak to four games with a key doubleheader sweep of Rockford University by scores of 6-2 in 10 innings and 8-4 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference games at Rivets Stadium.
St. Norbert (14-12, 11-5 NACC) fell behind 1-0 in the opener with Rockford parlayed back-to-back doubles in the second inning into a run. The Regents' 1-0 lead held up until the Green Knights scored a pair of runs on an error on a failed pickoff attempt in the top of the sixth inning for a 2-1 lead.
Rockford then loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning but a double play ended the inning. The Regents again loaded the bases with one out in the ninth inning and tied the game at 2-2 on a bases-loaded walk, but a strikeout and popup sent the game to extra innings.
St. Norbert scored four runs in the top of the 10th inning on two hits and four Rockford errors. A throwing error brought
Nick Volz around from second bases for a 3-2 lead. After a dropped foul ball kept his at bat alive,
Sebastien Dubois stroked a two-run double to left-center field for a 5-2 lead.
Caden Uhlenbrauck's single then brought around Dubois and a 6-2 advantage.
The Green Knights had six hits in the game, with Uhlenbrauck going 2-for-5.
Trevor Reinhardt worked eight-plus inning in a no-decision, allowing six hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in eight innings pitched.
Noah Lindsley got the win in relief, allowing one hit in two innings pitched.
In the nightcap, St. Norbert scored in the top of the first inning when Dubois' double brought home
Isaac Gerhardt, who singled with one out. The Green Knights doubled their lead in the fourth when
Keagan McCarthy's sacrifice fly plated
Luke Follmann. Rockford would get a run back on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning.
St. Norbert broke open the game with a three-run seventh.
Adam Cootway had a run-scoring single, Follmann had a sacrifice fly and Uhlenbrauck had a run-scoring single. The Green Knights added two runs in the eighth inning for a 7-1 lead when Volz had an RBI double and Gerhardt followed with an RBI single. Rockford scored three runs in the eighth inning to get to within 7-4. St. Norbert registered a tack-on run in the ninth on an
Alex Perez run-scoring single.
The Green Knights had 15 hits in Game 2. Follmann was 3-for-3 with a double. Volz, Gerhardt, Cootway and Dubois all had two hits apiece.
Luke Steebs got the win for St. Norbert, allowing five hits and four runs with three walks and four strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings pitched.
