DE PERE - St. Norbert College returned to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action and was swept by Marian University 15-3 and 16-7 in a doubleheader at Van Alstine Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex.
The Green Knights took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener when
Nick Volz opened with a double and was singled home by
Isaac Gerhardt. Marian would score 15 straight runs after that, scoring twice in the third, twice in the fourth, once in the fifth, six times in the sixth and four times in the seventh. St. Norbert scored twice in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run single by
Sebastien Dubois.
Dubois was 2-for-2 to lead St. Norbert, which had six hits.
Mason Sefcik took the loss.
St. Norbert took a 1-0 lead in the nightcap, with
Alex Perez's groundout scoring
Trevor Reinhardt in the second inning. The Sabres scored three times in the third inning and four times in the fourth inning. St. Norbert got a run in the fourth on a
Keagan McCarthy RBI single. Marian scored four runs in the fifth but the Green Knights came back with three runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run triple by
Adam Cootway.
Marian scored once in the sixth with St. Norbert getting the run back on a
Devin Geary RBI single. The Sabres scored twice in the seventh and twice in the eighth before St. Norbert scored the final run on a Perez RBI single to bring home McCarthy, who had doubled.
St. Norbert finished with 11 hits in the nightcap. McCarthy was 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Perez was 2-for-5 with two runs batted in, while Reinhardt was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
