GENEVA, Ill. - St. Norbert College rattled off three first-period goals and made the lead stand up in a 3-1 win over Aurora University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Fox Valley Ice Arena.
The Green Knights improved to 17-6 overall and 11-3 in the NCHA. The 17 wins matches a St. Norbert record for most wins in a regular season, tying the 2013-14 team. St. Norbert has two regular-season games remaining, both in a key NCHA series at Adrian College on Feb. 18-19. St. Norbert is currently in first place in the NCHA with 32 points, although Adrian and Lake Forest College each have four games-in-hand on the Green Knights.
St. Norbert took a quick 2-0 lead when
Kelsey Ross scored 8:23 into the game and
Margaret Wohlleber added a marker at 9:41. The Green Knights then killed off a pair of penalties and then added to their lead when
Courtnie Hogan scored at 16:40 for a 3-0 advantage.
The Green Knights then had a whopping seven power-play opportunities in the second period but remarkably didn't add to their lead, with the score remaining 3-0 at second intermission. Aurora cut into the deficit with a Peyton Elliott goal at 7:09 of the third period, but the Spartans would get no closer.
Hogan had an assist to give herself a two-point game.
St. Norbert outshot Aurora 28-22.
Ashley Ommen made 21 saves for get the win between the pipes for the Green Knights. Chiara Pfosi mae 25 saves for Aurora.
The Green Knights were 0-for-12 on the power play, while Aurora was 0-for-5.
