Fourth Quarter Dooms St. Norbert at Edgewood

MADISON - St. Norbert College saw an 11-point lead late in the third quarter melt away down the stretch as the Green Knights dropped a 61-59 decision at Edgewood College in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at the Todd Wehr Edgedome.

The Green Knights (13-7, 10-3 NACC) led 45-34 with 40 seconds left in the third quarter after a Jessica Boerner basket. But Edgewood would close the period out with a five-point flurry, with Abby Shane connecting on a 3-pointer and Diamond Pikulyk getting a steal and basket just before time expired to cut the deficit to 45-39.

Edgewood (8-11, 8-4) scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to take a 46-45 lead with 7:25 to play. St. Norbert missed its first six field-goal attempts of the fourth quarter and also committed four turnovers as Edgewood built a 56-49 lead with 1:09 left. The Eagles still led by seven at 58-51 with 57 seconds left, but St. Norbert mounted a furious rally behind a pair of Emma Morrisey 3-pointers and three missed Edgewood free throws. A pair of Morrisey free throws with 17 seconds left tied the game at 59-59, but Edgewood's Vivian Guerrero was fouled with three seconds left and made two free throws for the game's final points. A St. Norbert shot as time expired was off the mark.
