Green Knights Sweep NCHA Quarterfinal Series Over Trine

DE PERE - St. Norbert College rallied from a pair of one-goal deficits to post a 4-3 win over Trine University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Slaats Cup Playoffs Quarterfinal Series at Resch Olympic Pavilion.

The Green Knights (19-8) advanced to a NCHA Semifinal and will face Lake Forest College at 2 p.m. EST on Friday, March 4 at Arrington Ice Arena in Adrian, Mich. St. Norbert also matched a school-record total for wins in a season with 19, matching the 2013-14 squad.

St. Norbert scored just 2:57 into the game when Kelsey Ross scored on a pileup in front of the Trine net. The Thunder wasted little time in tying the score, with Brandi Wilson scoring at 5:32 of the first period. The 1-1 tie carried into first intermission.

The Thunder scored at 27 seconds into the second period when Kailey Mleko registered a goal. St. Norbert tied the game 2-2 at 6:27 when Abbie Tollefson scored. The Thunder would pull ahead again when Anabelle Scriver registered a power-play goal at 10:02. The Green Knights would respond with a power-play goal of their own when Margaret Wohlleber converted at 14:48. St. Norbert pulled ahead just 43 seconds later when Hannah Hickman posted the eventual game-winning goal.

St. Norbert effectively killed off a Trine major power play starting at the 4:43 mark of the third period, melting the five minutes away without a whistle. The Thunder had 40 seconds of extra-attacker time but did not tie the game.

Hickman and Ross had assists to finish with two-point games.

Shots were even at 24-24. Brynn Waisman made 21 saves for St. Norbert, while Ryleigh Furlong made 20 stops for the Thunder.

St. Norbert was 1-for-4 on the power play, while Trine was 1-for-5.
