RIVER FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College couldn't slow down Concordia University Chicago down the stretch and lost a 73-66 decision in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Geiseman Gymnasium.
The setback created a nine-way tie for first place in the loss column atop the NACC standings. St. Norbert, Concordia University Wisconsin, Benedictine University, Wisconsin Lutheran College and Marian University are all 10-6. Concordia Chicago, Illinois Tech and Edgewood College are all 9-6, while Rockford University is 8-6.
St. Norbert held a 52-51 lead with 5:23 remaining after a pair of
Garrett Grzesk free throws, but a conventional three-point play by Emanuel Wilson put the Cougars ahead 54-52 with 5 minutes to go. Concordia made all three of their field-goal attempts and was 15-for-17 the rest of the way to put the game away.
The Green Knights led 42-33 with 14:22 remaining, but Concordia Chicago rallied behind three 3-pointers from Jordan Matthews and a trey from Justin Greenlee to take a 45-44 lead with 11:47 left. St. Norbert had just one field goal from the 13:33 mark to the 5:59 mark but still trailed just 51-50 when
Michael Payant connected on a 3-pointer with 5:59 left.
St. Norbert shot 36.9 percent (24-for-65) from the floor.
Jacob Bolwerk had 17 points, while
Josh Nicklaus added 11.
Concordia Chicago shot 36.2 percent (21-for-58) from the floor. Matthews led the Cougars with 30 points.
