ADRIAN, Mich. - St. Norbert College held a lead after two periods but surrendered six third-period goals and dropped an 8-4 decision to Adrian College in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Arrington Ice Arena.
The No. 5-ranked Green Knights (20-4, 16-1 NCHA) had a 19-game winning streak snapped with the loss, while No. 1-ranked Adrian (23-1, 17-0) improved its winning streak to 23 with the victory.
St. Norbert held a 3-1 lead in the second period after
Michael Spethmann scored at the 11:36 mark. Adrian answered 70 seconds later when Dante Spagnuolo scored at 12:46. The Green Knights would hold the 3-2 lead into second intermission.
Zach Goberis tied the game at 3-3 at 3:15 of the third period, and Adrian's Matt Couto put the Bulldogs up 4-3 at the 5:43 mark. St. Norbert then had a power-play opportunity starting at the 7:34 mark, but Matus Spodniak scored shorthanded at 9:15 to swing momentum entirely in Adrian's favor. The Bulldogs would get get three more goals at 10:56, 11:48 and 13:53 to take an 8-3 lead.
Brendan Mark scored a power-play goal at 18:32 for St. Norbert.
The Green Knights got off to a good start when
Ian Famulak scored his first goal of the season just 1:57 into the game, the only goal of the first period.
Ben Schmidling added a power-play goal at 4:11 of the second period. Adrian's Sam Ruffin scored at 8:18 of the second period to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Brendan Aird had three assists for the Green Knights, while Schmidling added an assist for a two-point game.
Adrian outshot St. Norbert 48-25. Cameron Gray made 21 saves for the Bulldogs, while
Colby Entz made 40 stops for the Green Knights.
St. Norbert was 2-for-4 on the power play, while Adrian was 0-for-1.
