APPLETON - St. Norbert College opened the second half of its regular season with a 3-1 win over Lawrence University in a non-conference win at Appleton Ice Center.
The Green Knights, ranked No. 5 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, improved to 9-3-1 on the season.
St. Norbert took a 1-0 lead when
Liam Fraser registered his tenth goal of the season at the 15:01 mark for the first period's only scoring.
The Green Knights doubled their lead when
Michael McChesney rang up a power-play goal at 3:15 of the second period, a score that would hold up into second intermission.
Lawrence cut its deficit when Jack Michels scored just 37 seconds into the third period. The Green Knights would kill off a Lawrence power play starting at the 5:59 mark of the third, and then kept the Vikings off the board on 1:18 of extra-attacker time. McChesney scored an unassisted empty-net goal with five seconds left for his team-high 11th goal of the year.
St. Norbert outshot Lawrence 35-24.
Johnny Roberts made 10 saves working the first 29:24 to get the win for the Green Knights in goal, while
Colby Entz made 13 stops in the final 30:36. Owen Carlson made 32 saves for Lawrence.
McChesney's two goals were good for a two-point game.
Ben Schmidling had two assists for a two-point game, while Fraser added an assist for a two-point game.
The Green Knights were 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Vikings were 0-for-2.
