DE PERE - St. Norbert College got off to a red-hot start and never looked back in posting an impressive 85-57 win over Aurora University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game on Connie Tilley Court at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights (5-1, 2-0 NACC) jumped out to a 28-14 lead after one quarter and then outscored the Spartans 17-2 in the second quarter to take firm control.
Aurora (5-2, 1-1) held its only lead of the game at 5-4 but the Green Knights then reeled off 12 straight points to take a 16-5 lead.
Kaycee Gierczak and
Chloe Gruszynski finished layups and
Emma Morrisey followed with a pair of free throws and a hoop.
Olivia DeCleene's fast break finish put the Green Knights up 16-5 with 5:25 left in the quarter.
Natalie Cerrato's 3-pointer at the end of the quarter doubled St. Norbert's lead on Aurora at 28-14.
St. Norbert wore down Aurora in the second quarter, opening the period on a 12-0 run. Morrisey scored eight-straight points, with her trey putting the Green Knights ahead 40-14 with 4:27 left in the second quarter. The Green Knights settled on a 45-16 halftime advantage.
Aurora got its deficit down to 51-29 with 4:53 left in the third quarter, but St. Norbert then went on a 20-5 run to finish out the period. The Green Knights led by as much as 40 points in the fourth quarter.
St. Norbert shot 46.9 percent (30-for-64) from the floor and had five players reach double figures. Morrisey had 17 points, while Gierczak added 16 points.
Casey Jepson finished with 13 points, while Cerrato and
Taylor Thiry had 10 points apiece. DeCleene had four points, eight rebounds, eight assists and four steals in just 24 minutes.
Aurora shot 28.2 percent (20-for-71) from the floor. Eliot Dojurtrek led the Spartans with 11 points.
