DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - St. Norbert College couldn't capitalize on a seven-point halftime lead and scored only 20 second-half points en route to a 55-43 loss to Randolph-Macon College at the Daytona Beach Shootout at Ocean Center.
The Green Knights (8-2) fell behind 7-0 out of the gate before rallying behind a 13-3 run to close out the first quarter.
Olivia DeCleene and
Casey Jepson hit 3-pointers during the run, while
Kaycee Gierczak's conventional three-point play put the Green Knights ahead 13-10 going into the second quarter.
St. Norbert pushed out to a 22-14 lead on a Jepson trey with 4:14 left in the second quarter, its largest advantage of the first half. The Green Knights scored just one more point before halftime but led 23-16 at the break.
The Green Knights were seemingly in control with three nine-point leads in the third quarter, the last coming on a
Taylor Thiry hoop for a 32-23 lead with 4:01 left in the period. The Yellow Jackets quickly responded with an 11-0 run to close out the quarter to take a 34-32 lead into the last 10 minutes.
St. Norbert trailed 40-35 with 7:42 left, but the Green Knights would get no closer than six points the rest of the way.
The Green Knights shot 24.2 percent (15-for-62) from the floor. Jepson led the Green Knights with 11 points, while Gierczak added 10 points.
Randolph-Macon shot 35.8 percent (19-for-53) from the floor, including 13-for-28 (46.4 percent) in the second half. Catherine Kagey led the Yellow Jackets with 22 points and 16 rebounds.
