DE PERE - St. Norbert College began a two-game non-conference series with UW-Eau Claire and dropped the opener 3-2 at Cornerstone Community Center.
The Green Knights (5-1-1) dropped their first game of the season after mustering just three shots on goal in the decisive third period.
Eau Claire (5-2) broke a 2-2 tie when it scored 10 seconds into a power play, with Jack Johnston scoring 5 minutes into the third period. St. Norbert didn't have many opportunities to get an equalizer, including 77 seconds of extra-attacker time.
The Blugolds scored 3:06 into the game when Sammy Martel scored unassisted off a St. Norbert turnover. The Green Knights tied the game at 15:02, when
Michael McChesney finished around a scrum off assists from
Ian Famulak and
Dayton Deics.
St. Norbert went ahead 2-1 when

Liam Fraser helpers, but Eau Claire scored again off a turnover with Connor Szmul finishing a 4-on-4 goal at 18:33.
Eau Claire outshot St. Norbert 28-23, including 19-11 in the final two periods.
Johnny Roberts made 25 saves for St. Norbert, while Max Gutjahr made 21 saves for the Blugolds.
