DE PERE - St. Norbert College registered its first shutout of the season in posting a 7-0 win over Finlandia University in the first game of a two-game Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series at Cornerstone Community Center.
The Green Knights (4-0-1, 3-0 NCHA), ranked No. 4 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, outshot the Lions 42-9, including 26-4 in the last two periods.
St. Norbert took a 2-0 lead after one period.
Liam Fraser scored at 11:34 of the first period, and
Ben Schmidling puffed the net 58 seconds later to account for the scoring. The Green Knights added three second-period goals.
Brendan Aird scored a power-play goal 46 seconds into the period, and
Adam Stacho added another power-play marker at 3:42.
Brendan Mark added a goal at 10:48 of the frame for a 5-0 lead.
The Green Knights scored their final two goals when
Michael McChesney scored at 9:23 and Fraser at 13:27 of the third period.
Schmidling, McChesney and Stacho all finished with one goal and two assists for three points.
Adam Szubert had three assists for three points. Fraser's two goals accounted for the other multi-point game.
Colby Entz made nine saves to get the shutout for St. Norbert. Dakota Meyer made 35 stops for the Lions.
St. Norbert was 2-for-5 on the power play, while Finlandia was 0-for-6.
