RIPON - St. Norbert College got its 2022-23 men's basketball season officially underway with a 68-55 loss at Ripon College in a non-conference game at Willmore Center.
The Green Knights' only lead came at 2-0 but the visitor found themselves tied at 16-16 midway through the first half. St. Norbert trailed 22-21 after
Carter Gebler's jumper with 5:32 left in the first half, but the Red Hawks got a pair of 3-pointers from Drew Jorgensen to take a 28-21 lead. The Green Knights finished the second half 1-for-7 from the floor to trail 30-23 at halftime.
St. Norbert trailed 37-34 with 14:54 remaining and 42-38 with 11:50 to go, but Ripon would go on an 8-2 run to take a 50-40 lead with 9:47 to go. The Green Knights would not get to within eight the rest of the way.
St. Norbert shot 39.6 percent (21-for-53) from the floor and was 3-for-20 (15 percent) from beyond the three-point arc.
Michael Payant registered a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while
Evan Glaser chipped in 12 points and five rebounds.
Ripon shot 50 percent (24-for-48) from the floor and was 11-for-20 (55 percent) from distance. Dominic Galati led the Red Hawks with 15 points.
