DE PERE - St. Norbert College got an overtime power-play goal from
Liam Fraser to claim a 3-2 win over UW-Stevens Point in a non-conference game at Cornerstone Community Center.
Fraser's goal came on a 4-on-3 situation off an assist from
Ben Schmidling at 3:39 of overtime to win the opener of a home-and-home series between the long-time rivals. St. Norbert got the man advantage after the Pointers' Tyler German was whistled for tripping at 3:07.
St. Norbert took the lead at 6:03 of the first period when Schmidling finished off a nice backhand after getting assists from
Max Brainin and
Jordan Strand. The Pointers would tie the game when Wilson Northey scored at 12:47, moments after a St. Norbert power play expired.
The Green Knights retook the lead when Schmidling scored again, this time at 4:43 of the second period off helpers from Dayton Deics and
Adam Szubert. That goal would hold up until the Pointers started to apply heavy pressure in the third period, and the visitor converted at 11:58 on a goal by Isaac Moberg.
Schmidling's two goals and one assist was St. Norbert's only multi-point game.
St. Norbert outshot Stevens Point 27-25, including 4-1 in overtime.
Colby Entz made 23 stops for the Green Knights, while Ryan Wagner made 24 saves for the Pointers.
The Green Knights were 1-for-3 on the power play, while Stevens Point was 0-for-2.
