FOND DU LAC - St. Norbert College picked up its fifth five-set win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Marian University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Sadoff Gymnasium.
The Green Knights (15-10, 10-3 NACC), now 5-2 in five-set matches this season, declawed the Sabres 25-23, 11-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-12.
St. Norbert never trailed in the opening set, seeing a 13-9 lead move to 17-11. The Sabres would eventually knot the score at 23-23, but a Marian attack error and an
Alyssa Mills kill finished off the set. The Green Knights would trail 9-3 in the third set before a 7-1 run got St. Norbert back into it at 10-10. Marian would get the next two points, but a 6-0 run behind three Gregg kills put St. Norbert up 16-12. The Sabres would come again, getting to within 24-23, but a
Molly Rader kill put St. Norbert ahead 2-1.
The fifth set was tied 6-6 before a Rader kill and two Marian attack errors pushed St. Norbert ahead 9-6. The Green Knights were up 12-7 before the Sabres made one last push to get to 13-11, but a Gregg kill with a 14-12 lead gave St. Norbert the victory.
St. Norbert hit .147 for the match, with 51 kills against 30 errors in 143 attempts. Gregg finished with 14 kills, while Mills had 12 and
Brooke Clement 11.
Heidi Colburn had 29 assists, while
Skye McGill added 15. Clement had two service aces.
Erin Eggers had 14 digs, with Clement and Gregg adding nine each. Rader finished with three blocks.
Marian hit .163 for the match, with 47 kills against 25 errors in 135 attempts. Serina Pehowski finished with 19 kills.
