Green Knights Shoot Down Stars

DE PERE - St. Norbert College shot almost 56 percent from the floor en route to an 88-50 defeat of Dominican University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights (11-5, 8-1 NACC) connected on 34 of 61 field-goal attempts, good for 55.7 percent. St. Norbert made 11 of 13 (84.6 percent) of its field-goal attempts in the third quarter, which saw a 12-point halftime lead rupture into a 27-point advantage after three periods.

St. Norbert never trailed in the game, scoring six of the first eight points and eventually leading 18-9 late in the first quarter after a Jessica Boerner layup. After Dominican's Alisha Markley threw in a 35-foot 3-pointer beat the buzzer and cut the deficit to 18-12 at the end of the period, the Stars would take the momentum and get to within 23-22 with 5:39 left in the second quarter. St. Norbert would then go on a 9-0 run to get some breathing room behind a basket by Olivia DeCleene, a Boerner hoop, a conventional three-point play by DeCleene and a fast-break layup by Emma Morrisey for a 32-22 edge with 3:23 left in the half. St. Norbert would lead 40-28 at halftime.

The Green Knights would open the third quarter on a 15-0 run, opening the half by getting eight consecutive defensive stops and scoring on seven of their first eight possessions. Mary Cravillion had five points during the run, with Boerner and Kaycee Gierczak adding four apiece. St. Norbert would settle on a 65-38 lead after the third quarter. The Green Knights would lead by as many as 42 points in the fourth quarter.

Boerner led St. Norbert with 18 points, while Gierczak added 16 points and 11 rebounds. Madison Herdina came off the bench to add 12 points and five rebounds.
