DE PERE - St. Norbert College had a big second half and pulled away from Milwaukee School of Engineering in a 69-50 win in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights (12-5, 9-1 NACC) trailed by 10 points in the second quarter before rallying to take a four-point lead at halftime. St. Norbert then shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half, making 14 of 28 field-goal attempts, to pull away.
St. Norbert never led in the first quarter, and trailed 17-12 after the first 10 minutes. The Raiders would score the first five points of the second quarter to take a 22-12 lead after a Skylar Flanagan 3-pointer. The Green Knights countered with a treys from
Casey Jepson and
Sarah Chouinard on their next two possessions to get to within four at 22-18. St. Norbert trailed 25-20 with 5:24 left and neither team scored until
Emma Morrisey's triple at the 2:35 mark. After a MSOE hoop,
Olivia DeCleene canned a 3-pointer to get to within one. That basket jumpstarted an 8-0 run to give St. Norbert a 31-27 lead at halftime.
The Green Knights held the lead in the third period and led 40-37 with 4:33 to go. St. Norbert then went on a 12-0 run to build a 52-37 lead. Chloe Gruszaynski canned back-to-back baskets followed by a hoop from DeCleene. Jepson and DeCleene then splashed consecutive 3-pointers to lead 52-37 with 23 seconds left in the quarter.
MSOE (6-9, 4-5) got to within 10 at 54-44, but St. Norbert then went on a 9-2 run to salt the game away, with all nine points accounted for on DeCleene 3-pointers.
St. Norbert shot 45.6 percent (26-for-57) from the floor for the game and was 10-for-24 (41.7 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. DeCleene was the only Green Knight in double figures with 22 points, and added seve rebounds and six assists. Morrisey, Gruszynski and
Jessica Boerner all had nine points apiece.
MSOE shot 39.5 percent (17-for-43) from the floor. Flanagan led the Raiders with 14 points.
