Special Teams Shine for St. Norbert; Wins 15th Straight

DE PERE - St. Norbert College rode the play of its special teams to a 4-1 win over Marian University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (16-3, 12-0 NCHA), ranked No. 7 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, won for the 15th consecutive time. The winning streak is one short of the school record 16, set twice on Feb. 16-Nov. 21, 2008 and from Feb. 7-Nov. 14, 2014. The 15-game winning streak is the longest winning streak for St. Norbert in a single season, with the other two bridging parts of two seasons.

St. Norbert killed off all five Marian power plays while scoring a power-play goal of its own. The Green Knights also picked up a crucial shorthanded goal to gain some breathing room in the third period.

Following a scoreless first period, Liam Fraser scored the only goal of the second period when he registered a power-play marker at the 2:50.

The Green Knights would take a 2-0 lead when Carter Hottmann scored at 3:10 of the third period, but Marian answered at 4:28 on a goal by Alex Rondeau. St. Norbert then found itself shorthanded, but Evan Cholak converted a scoring chance at 5:56. The goal was even more important as 24 seconds later St. Norbert committed another penalty, but the Green Knights kept Marian off the scoreboard. Fraser then rung up his 13th goal of the season when he scored at the 12:57 mark.

Fraser finished with St. Norbert's lone multi-point game with the pair of goals.

St. Norbert outshot Marian 31-26 and finished 1-for-3 on the power play. Marian was 0-for-5 with the advantage.

Johnny Roberts made 25 saves for the Green Knights, while Aaron Brunn made 27 stops for the Sabres.
