APPLETON - St. Norbert College got a pair of goals from Abby Thompson to break open a scoreless match and lift the Green Knights to a 2-1 win over Lawrence University in a non-conference match at Banta Bowl.

The Green Knights and Vikings had battled through a scoreless 73 minutes until Thompson registered her first collegiate goal at 73:17 with Lizzie Guerin assisting. Thompson wasted little time recording a valuable insurance goal, getting an unassisted marker at 81:12.

Lawrence got back into the game when the Vikings' Cambrie Rickard scored with 1:17 remaining, but the Vikings could not get the equalizer.

St. Norbert outshot Lawrence 24-8, including 17-1 in a scoreless first half. The Green Knights also had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks, while fouls were six apiece in a cleanly played match.

Lilly Collins - who stopped a Lawrence penalty kick early in the second half - made three saves to pick up her first collegiate win between the posts, while the Vikings' Sarah Yochem made 11 saves.

St. Norbert opens Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play when it travels to Lakeland University for a match at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
