St. Norbert Returns to Action With Split Against Luther

Taylor UllmanROCHESTER, Minn. - St. Norbert College's softball team returned to the field for the first time in 665 days and posted a doubleheader split with Luther College, dropping the opener 5-0 before winning the nightcap 3-2 at the RCTC Dome.

St. Norbert jumped out to a 3-0 lead in Game 2, getting two runs in the third inning and followed with another run in the fourth. Christina Paleka opened the third inning with a triple and scored on a Lilly Haase groundout. Kayla Bahr then walked and later scored on an error for the second run. In the fourth, the Green Knights got a pair of one-out singles from Abby Primus and Carmen Yost and Paleka walked to load the bases. Haase's fielder's choice grounder brought home Primus for a 3-0 lead.

Luther answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Norse would load the bases in the sixth but did not score, and then had the potential tying run thrown out at home plate by Sarah Koltermann for the second out of the bottom of the seventh inning.

Taylor Ullman had two of St. Norbert's five hits in the nightcap. Emma Wiese got the win, allowing just one earned run on five hits with two strikeouts in four innings pitched. Morgyn Zielke finished up with three scoreless innings for the save.

St. Norbert was held to six hits in the opener and was shutout by Luther's Kendra Cooper, who struck out 10. Koltermann and Alyssa Sikora had two hits apiece for the Green Knights. Ellie Olsen took the loss, allowing three earned runs on 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings pitched.
