FOND DU LAC - St. Norbert College held Marian University to 15 first-half points and went on to post a 76-57 win in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Sadoff Gym.
The Green Knights (6-1, 3-0 NACC), now the lone unbeaten team in NACC play, led 33-15 at halftime. St. Norbert then made two-thirds of its field-goal attempts in the second half (18-for-27) to hold off Marian, which scored 42 second-half points.
St. Norbert led 14-11 with 9:05 left in the first half before going on a 10-0 run to establish control, and would keep a double-digit lead the rest of the game.
Carson Talbert got the run started with a hoop at the 8:39 mark, followed by a
Garrett Grzesk basket inside.
Parker Lawrence and
Jacob Bolwerk then splashed 3-pointers, the latter putting St. Norbert ahead 24-11 with 5:52 left before halftime. Talbert's basket with 41 seconds left in the half sent St. Norbert into the locker room up 33-15.
The Green Knights led 37-23 with 18:18 left in the game before going on a 10-1 run to build a 47-24 lead with 14:25 left.
Evan Glaser made a pair of free throws to open the run, while Talbert and Bolwerk then alternated baskets for the next four St. Norbert field goals. The Green Knights would eventually build six different leads of 24 points the rest of the way.
St. Norbert shot 46.4 percent (32-for-69) from the floor and held a commanding 46-33 rebounding advantage, with 18 caroms on the offensive end. Talbert posted career-highs with 23 points and 13 rebounds.
Nick Smoldt came off the bench to add 11 points, while Grzesk posted 10 points. The Green Knights had 21 assists on 32 field goals while committing just nine turnovers.
Marian shot 35.8 percent (19-for-53) from the floor and hoisted up 31 three-point attempts, making 11 (35.5 percent). Tyler Gouin and David Britton had 14 points apiece to lead the Sabres, who committed 21 turnovers.
