AURORA, Ill. - St. Norbert College got double-digit scoring from four players and used that balance to post a 73-63 win over Aurora University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Thornton Gym.
The Green Knights (4-4, 2-0 NACC) held a 9-8 lead midway through the first quarter before going on a 14-0 run to see their lead rupture into a 23-8 advantage.
Chloe Gruszynski got the run started with a jumper, followed by a
Casey Jepson 3-pointer.
Kaycee Gierczak made a pair of free throws prior to a Gruszynski jumper, which was followed by an
Emma Morrisey hoop.
Olivia DeCleene's conventional three-point play on a steal and fastbreak layup put the Green Knights up 15 with 2:33 left in the first quarter. St. Norbert led 23-11 after the first quarter.
Aurora got to within 11 points at 25-14 but St. Norbert saw its lead go back to 16 points on three occasions in the second quarter before settling on a 38-24 halftime lead.
St. Norbert led 46-29 early in the third quarter before the Spartans got back to within 11 again at 50-39, but St. Norbert got a quick six points on a pair of Morrisey free throws, a
Jessica Boerner basket and a Jepson hoop to stave off the rally for a 56-39 lead with 2:29 left in the third quarter.
The Spartans got to within 10 points six times in the fourth quarter, but would never get to within single digits.
DeCleene led St. Norbert with 17 points, while Jepson scored 14 points off the bench. Gierczak and Boerner had 12 points apiece. The Green Knights held a 43-34 reboudning advantage while shooting 43.1 percent (25-for-58) from the floor. St. Norbert was 21-for-23 (91.3 percent) at the free-throw line.
Aurora shot 39.3 percent (24-for-61) from the floor and was 8 of 16 (50 percent) at the charity stripe. Crystal Rios led the Spartans with 17 points.
