EUREKA, Ill. - St. Norbert College scored nine of the game's last 10 touchdowns to cruise to a 70-21 win over Eureka College in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at McKinzie Field.
The Green Knights (4-5, 3-4 NACC) trailed the Red Devils (2-8, 2-5) by a 14-7 score after the first quarter but outscored the host 63-7 the rest of the way.
Eureka got on the board when Joe Jackson returned a blocked St. Norbert field-goal attempt 71 yards for a touchdown just 4:33 into the game. St. Norbert tied the game on a
Delton Zuleger 6-yard touchdown run, but the Red Devils took a 14-7 lead on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Lukas Tinkham to Pierce Bradford late in the quarter.
St. Norbert scored the next three touchdowns, getting scores on a 15-yard run by
Ben Kohl and scoring jaunts of 22 and 8 yards by
David Lox. Tinkham cut the Eureka deficit to 28-21 on a 1-yard touchdown run, but
Parker Lawrence's 2-yard run on fourth-and-goal with 20 seconds left before halftime put St. Norbert ahead 35-21.
The Green Knights scored 28 third-quarter points on a 21-yard pass from Kohl to Lawrence, and runs of 14 and 38 yards by Kohl sandwiched around a Lox 1-yard plunge.
Alex Meisenheimer's 8-yard touchdown run with 9:12 remaining were the game's final points.
St. Norbert outgained Eureka 511-148 in total offense, including a decisive 367-30 advantage on the ground. Kohl led the Green Knights on the ground with 154 yards on 11 carries and three touchdowns. It was the most rushing yards for a St. Norbert quarterback in 27 years, since Steve Stratton's 169 yards on Oct. 29, 1994 against Beloit College. Zuleger added 104 rushing yards on 17 carries and one touchdown. Kohl completed 10 of 20 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns. Lox caught four passes for 81 yards.
Tinkham completed 11 of 22 passes for 118 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions for Eureka.
Mitch McCabe had a team-high nine tackles with three tackles-for-loss.
Maccabee Barrett had 1 1/2 tackles-for-loss and six overall, while
Kendall Karcz had two interceptions.
