Wright Goal Sends St. Norbert to NACC Tournament Championship

DE PERE - With a goal in the final minute of action, St. Norbert College topped Milwaukee School of Engineering 1-0 in a pulsating Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament semifinal match at Schneider Stadium.

St. Norbert (12-6-1) got the game's lone goal with exactly one minute remaining in regulation time. The Green Knights had a corner kick from the northeast flag, and Lucas Rojas' serve found Matthew Wright at the far end of the goal mouth. Wright's header had just enough on it to elude MSOE goalkeeper Ron Marchionna and crawl across the goal line at the near post for the goal, his fourth of the season. (See video below for Wright's goal).

The Green Knights will host Dominican University in the NACC Tournament championship match at 2 p.m. Saturday at Schneider Stadium. The Stars topped St. Norbert 2-0 on Oct. 18 in River Forest, Ill.

The corner kick leading to the winning goal was set up after Rojas's shot to the top middle with about 90 seconds remaining was deflected just over the crossbar thanks to a fingertip save by Marchionna on what was to that point the best scoring chance for either team.

The match was evenly played with each team getting eight shots, but St. Norbert had the better run of play in the final 20 minutes. The Green Knights had seven corner kicks to the Raiders' two. St. Norbert had 14 fouls to MSOE's 13.

Daniel Yurk made three saves for St. Norbert to post the shutout. Marchionna made four stops for the Raiders.
