DE PERE - St. Norbert College battled Dominican University to a 1-1 double-overtime tie in the championship match of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament at Schneider Stadium, but saw its season come to an end after the Stars won the shootout 4-2 to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
The Green Knights (12-6-2) took an early lead when
Joe Meade got loose and found
Caden Etzel on a cross, who headed in the pass at 17:04 for his second goal of the season.
That goal held up until the 59th minute, when Dominican converted a free kick from the corner near the goal line with John Cronnolly chesting in Garrett Boston's set piece at 58:23.
St. Norbert had three corner kicks in the two overtime sessions and had the momentum in the last 30 minutes of play, but couldn't find the cage.
In the penalty shootout, Dominican converted all four of its chances, while St. Norbert missed its first and fourth opportunities.
The Green Knights outshot Dominican 15-5, including 10-2 in the second half. St. Norbert had seven corner kicks to the Stars' three. St. Norbert had an 11-8 edge in fouls.
